Honorable Mention in Volkswagen Bridge Design Competition

Early this last semester Walter and I dove into a student design competition we had no idea about. It turned out to be a very fun experience, being able to incorporate new design techniques and technologies that we were learning simultaneously as the design program unfolded. We were to design a 700 ft pedestrian bridge connecting visitors and workers to VW's billion dollar new car factory in Chattanooga, TN. The whole semester we talked about it and it came down to about 72 long hours in the computer lab at school. We did stop for a break to watch the SEC Championship game (I love to see Tebo cry). The results?

A bond stronger than glue with Walter and Honorable Mention worth $500.

Here are some renderings from our boards. Cheers Walter.

  1. Congrats, Matthew and Walter! Mom told me about it the other day, and I'm so proud of the two of you. I know you guys had some stiff competition, so that just shows how talented you two really are!
